We're Hiring!

Network / Systems Engineer

Island Bridge Networks is a company which specialises in internet infrastructure. In a nutshell, we do not manage the core and edge network of just one ISP but we do it for many ISPs. We also look for interesting and technically challenging projects, both in Ireland and abroad.

We're currently looking to hire a network / systems engineer with at least three years experience.

What you will do:
  • Develop and maintain the network / server infrastructure of our customers.
  • Provide level 3 support to our customers and, in some cases, their customers.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation. From time to time, late night work will be required from home / on customer premises (usually rare).
  • Travel and work from client sites / data centres will be occasionally required with suitable attire (min: smart casual) and presentation.
We are vendor-agnostic and use a wide variety of systems and technologies including:
  • Arista, Brocade, Cisco, Dell, Extreme Networks, HP and Mikrotik families
  • Some FreeBSD but 95% Linux (Ubuntu/Debian and RedHat/CentOS families)
  • Virtualisation technologies (VMware, Xen)
  • DNS (Bind, PowerDNS), SMTP (Postfix), FreeRADIUS
  • Orchestration / automation tools (SaltStack)
  • Apache/Nginx / PHP / MySQL stack
  • Monitoring tools / protocols including Nagios, SNMP, MRTG, sflow, netflow
  • Networking protocols including MPLS, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, STP
  • Optical networking
The successful candidate is NOT required to have experience with all of the above. This is just a flavour of the types of things we do. However you must have:
  • Proficient experience installing, maintaining and using either Linux or FreeBSD.
  • Experience with IP protocols (ICMP, UDP, TCP); IP filtering and firewalling; and standard services (DNS, HTTP, SMTP, DHCP, etc.).
  • Experience with L3 networking (especially BGP and either ISIS or OSPF) in a production environment.
  • Some experience with layer 2 switching and STP.
  • Good documentation skills.
  • Full driving license.
Bonus points for the following:
  • automation / programming skills (perl, php, bash, etc.)
  • experience with networks with multiple transit providers and an IXP connection
  • advanced layer 2 experience (L2 acls, port security, pvst / mst)
  • third level qualification in computer science / mathematics / physics

The ideal candidate will have an active interest in much of the above; be capable of independent problem solving and learning; and an ability to work on one's own initiative. You should also have an analytical and methodical approach to solving problems.

The position is available immediately and based in our Dublin City Centre office. Salary will be based on experience.
